According to the latest data from Bundesnetzagentur, Germany added 640 megawatts of installed photovoltaic capacity in August. In the first eight months of this year, a total of 4.8GW of installed photovoltaic capacity was added, compared with 3.6GW in the same period last year, 5.26GW last year and 4.9GW in 2020.

According to the statistics of Global Photovoltaic, in the first half of this year, the installed capacity of photovoltaics in Germany was 3.217GW, so in July and August, Germany added 1.583GW, which is equivalent to nearly half of the first half of the year. In addition, compared with the increase of 434.5 MW in August 2021 and 535 MW in July, the new installed capacity in July and August 2022 has obviously accelerated.

The number of newly installed units in August and the year-on-year growth rate shown in the figure are lower than those in July, which may be due to the rare global high temperature and drought in August this year. The increase in the first half of the year is much lower than that in January-August, probably because the outbreak of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict and the end of February, the investment in PV has not yet affected the first half of the year on a large scale, but it has obviously accelerated since July.

After entering the fourth quarter, the temperature has dropped significantly, and the crisis of keeping out the cold, which tests the Nordic countries including Germany, is accelerating. However, the conflict between Russia and Ukraine has not eased, and the supply of Russian natural gas is still stubbornly resisted or limited. There is reason to believe that European countries will speed up the deployment of photovoltaic installations.

In order to avoid shivering in the cold wind, the German government approved the exemption of income tax and the corresponding value-added tax for qualified rooftop photovoltaics in the 2022 annual tax bill last month, and continued to respond to the growing energy crisis by implementing the policy of supporting small distributed photovoltaics. It is expected that the installed capacity of new PV in Germany is expected to exceed 8GW this year.
